Susan Moug

Consultant Surgeon and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, University of Glasgow

Susan is a consultant colorectal surgeon who works in Paisley, Scotland. She qualified from University of Glasgow Medical School in 2000, having completed a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science and Physiology earlier in 1991-1995. She entered surgical training in 2002 and completed her PhD in 2007. Susan was appointed a consultant in 2013 and her clinical interests include colorectal cancer and abdominal hernia alongside peri-operative care, including prehabilitation.

Susan is a NHS Research Scotland Senior Fellow and an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Glasgow. Her research interests focus on lifestyle changes in surgical patients, frailty in older adults, and improving staging in rectal cancer. Susan believes multi-disciplinary collaboration (including patients) is the way forward for surgical research and she particularly enjoys working alongside exercise physiologists and bioengineers that have created new research opportunities, including novel blood tests for cancer detection, perioperative care apps and developing drug-eluting abdominal wall hernia meshes. Susan currently holds grants from CRUK, EPSRC and BDRF.
